The FPAN Archaeology Lab is open to volunteers throughout the year. Volunteers help rough sort artifacts recovered from local archaeological sites. Archaeology Tour of Phillippi Estate Park

Phillippi Estate Park 5500 S. Tamiami Trail

Walking tour led by Sarasota County Historical Resources archaeologist, Steve Koski who will discuss the Phillippi Flake Scatter and the Prodie Shell Midden as you stroll the estate and learn about the pre-history of the area. From 5,000 B.C. to 2,000 B.C. the native population sharpened and produced stone tools on site. The Prodie Shell Midden dates approximately between 400 B.C. to 800 A.D. and represents the Manasota encampment. The free tour begins in front of the 1916 Keith Farmhouse.
