Join FPAN Southeast for a day on the water to learn about the history and archaeology of Indian Key Historic State Park!

This 11-acre island had been inhabited by Indigenous people of Florida since the year 600, until it was purchased by wrecker Jacob Housman in 1831, setting off a dramatic chain of events lasting decades.

Currently, Indian Key is an open-air museum– and a ghost town!
What is the story of this fascinating place? Let’s find out!

We’ll be meeting at The Kayak Shack at Robbie’s Islamorada (Florida Keys Kayak — Located at Robbie’s Marina MM 77, 77522 Overseas Hwy, Islamorada, FL 33036) at 10:30 am, giving us time to rent or unload kayaks at our launch point before hitting the water at 11 am. The paddle to Indian Key is about one hour, and after spending some time exploring the island, we’ll paddle back and return to the Kayak Shack around 3:30 pm.

Remember to bring water, sunscreen, sunglasses, bug spray, lunch, snacks, and a hat! We’ll be outside all day.
