Join us for the next “Archaeology on Tap” program at Odd Colony Brewing Company in downtown Pensacola! Dr. Katie Miller Wolf will give her talk “BONEafied Adventures in Central American Bioarchaeology.”

Dr. Katherine Miller Wolf is a bioarchaeologist and associate professor of Anthropology at the University of West Florida. Specializing in the study of human skeletal remains from archaeological sites, she explores cultural aspects of past societies through bioarchaeological analysis. She has conducted extensive research across Mesoamerica, including northern Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras, focusing on prehistoric and colonial-period burials.

Since 2004, she has led a significant conservation project in Copan, Honduras, overseeing more than 1,200 ancient Maya skeletal remains. In 2020, she received the Archaeological Institute of America’s Conservation and Heritage Management Award for her preservation work in Copan. Dr. Miller Wolf was awarded a prestigious 2020 Fulbright U.S. Scholar grant to Honduras, where she analyzed the largest known collection of ancient Maya human remains in Mesoamerica and trained students from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras (UNAH) in bioarchaeological methods. She also taught UNAH’s first-ever bioarchaeology course in 2015. Beyond Mesoamerica, her research spans skeletal collections from the early Holocene Gobero Site in Niger and Mississippian and Woodland sites in the Lower Illinois River Valley. Actively engaged in academic service, she has served as a Science Advisor for the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and was a guest editor for a special issue on skeletal conservation in Advances in Archaeological Practice (2019).

“Archaeology on Tap” is just like our long-standing program ArchaeoCafé…just hosted at a local brewery instead of a restaurant! “Archaeology on Tap” is free and open to the community, but is recommended for adults. Seating is unreserved. The talk starts at 6:00 pm CT and guests are recommended to arrive by 5:45 pm to place drink orders and claim a seat before the talk begins.
