The fifth of a projected ten historical markers announced for Tallahassee’s bicentennial and sponsored by the Tallahassee Historical Society will be unveiled Wednesday March 5 at 4 pm at the Velda Mound Park on Baldwin Street South. The marker, done in cooperation with the Panhandle Archaeological Society at Tallahassee (PAST) commemorates the Fort Walton-era village site whose sole remnant is large Native-American platform mound.  Velda Mound was built in approximately 1450 and was occupied until about 1625.    The Velda Mound marker is one of three historical markers focusing on Native American life.
